Middle Layer Edges
This next section will finish the second layer of the cube. This will require two algorithms to be able to do this.
First, go find an edge cubie that has no black or yellow and is on the top layer (yellow). If there is no non-black/yellow edge on the top layer, use this guide to move the piece out. Another possible problem is if the edge piece is flipped. Here is a solution. Then, position the edge piece above the center piece. Follow one of the two cases and use the algorithm for the diagrams shown below.

U R U’ R’ F R’ F’ R

U’ L’ U L F’ L F L’ (Note that in this one, the blue is the front layer and the red is the left layer).
No non-black/yellow edge on the top (yellow layer)
There might be a case where the top layer doesn’t have a non-black/yellow piece but the second layer is not solved. An example is pictured below.

To fix this, just use U R U’ R’ F R’ F’ (which is just the same algorithm above). The piece will be moved onto the top layer. Then, you can proceed to solve like normal.
Edge Piece Flipped

To fix this problem, just use U R U’ R’ F R’ F’ (which is, again, just the same algorithm above). Then, the piece should be on the top layer and you can continue to solve like normal.
This is what you should see if these steps are followed corectly. (The first two layers are completely solved all around).

The next step is to create a yellow cross on the last layer.
